Zhang Dongxiang: Leading Volunteers in Helping Residents Solve Difficulties

Zhang Dongxiang, a 34-year member of the Party (Communist Party of China), has been leading volunteers in providing services to residents of Shanyang (a district in Jiaozuo, a city in Central China's Henan Province) during the past several years. The objective? To help the residents live better lives.
Soon after she established Dongxiang Good Mothers Work Station, in 2016, Zhang began organizing retired Party members to provide heartwarming services to residents, including offering psychological counseling and helping resolve disputes within families.
In 2017, the Party branch of Dongxiang Good Mothers Work Station was set up. Zhang is secretary of the Party branch, director of the work station, and president of the station's women's federation.
The station has recruited more than 2,040 volunteers, 99 percent of whom are women, and whose average age is 64.
Under Zhang's leadership, the station has received many titles, including Advanced Grassroots-level Party Organization and National March 8th Red-Banner Collective.
Zhang in recent years has led volunteers in publicizing information about the Party's policies and historical development, to promote China's "red gene" among residents.
During the past several years, Zhang has led volunteers in fighting floods, and in helping residents prevent and control the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Zhang has also tried her best to help residents solve difficulties in their lives. She has established a family disputes mediation center, an exhibition hall to highlight the value of good family traditions and education, and a psychological-counseling center.
"As a retired Party member, and head of a social organization, I was honored to be elected a delegate to both the 12th and 13th National Women's congresses (NWC). That has showcased the Party and women's federations' concern for social organizations. That has also inspired me to make greater efforts to improve my work. I will continue to lead women volunteers in providing services to residents, to help them solve difficulties in their lives," Zhang said, during an interview with Women of China, during the 13th NWC.
